Overview

The Bible and Christianity teach that God is Sovereign – He is in control. Most Bible believing Christians believe this, but do we really understand what God’s Sovereignty looks like? Do we really understand how it is woven into the fabric of our lives? Consider the following commonly asked question; ‘what is happening in Heaven right now?’ What do you think?  Most Christians respond with answers that typically pertain to praise and worship. While I do believe that to be true, I also believe that the Scriptures teach there is much, much more going on in Heaven.  What would you say to the idea of Logistics…God’s Logistics… taking place in Heaven?  Consider the following definition:

LOGISTICS: “the planning, implementation, and coordination of the details of a business or other operation.” (Dictionary.com)

I believe this is what the Scriptures teach regarding the Lord our God. Consider the following verses and topics as a small sampling:

  • God has a Plan:  Jeremiah 29:11, Isaiah 46:10, (all of the Prophets & Prophecies & Apocalyptic writings)
  • We were created for a specific purpose: Ephesians 2:10
  • God is a Master Builder & Architect:
    * The Body – Ephesians 4:16
    * Individuals –  1 Corinthians 3:9; Ephesians 2:21-22; Hebrews 12:2; 1 Peter 2:5
    * He is a Master Gardner – John 15
  • God is Looking for Vessels: 2 Chronicles 16:9; Ezekiel 22:30;
  • Glimpses in Heaven show He is Working: 1 Kings 22:20; Isaiah 6:8
  • Christ said the Father is always working: John 5:17
  • God’s will is for none to perish: 2 Peter 3:9 (So He must be working to accomplish His will)

What I see in Scriptures are essentially three general categories of God’s Logistics as they pertain to us as individuals. They are:

  1. IN US – God’s Logistics working in us: The first step in the Lord working in us is to draw us into a loving, saving relationship with Him. It begins with the conception of faith in our hearts through repentance and believing the Gospel. This is not the end, rather it is the beginning. Jesus is the Author and Finisher, Perfecter and Refiner of our faith. He completes it through instances of Tests, Trials, Tribulations, Persecutions, etc.  He has to, desires to, promises to and will complete the good work He has begun in us. He desires to make us like Christ, conforming us to the image of His Son. We are branches on the vine of Christ and He is a faithful husbandman that desires to prune us to help us bare more fruit. These trials and their yield (our response to them) also demonstrate (1) areas of weakness in our wall of faith, and (2) may even be the Lord exposing that we are not really His child.
  2. THROUGH US – God’s Logistics working through us: We know that the Lord seeks vessels that He can use. Vessels that have gone through the fire, refined and fit for the master’s use (2 Timothy 2:21). He owns the cattle on a thousand hills, the wisdom of the universe and all that every human being needs…but He desires to use us, His children, as vessels to deliver His miracles, provisions, words of love and encouragement, rebukes, etc. We are to be His tools. The Gospel is in our hands (Jude 3). We are to be His trumpeters sounding the alarm to those that are perishing (Ez 33:1-9). We are to be His Hands & feet (25:35-45). We are to be His voice (Romans 10:14). The Lord evens tells us that there is a great harvest, but very few laborers…we should even be praying for more (Matthew 9:37-38)
  3. AROUND US – God’s Logistics working around us: We should be able to discern what the Lord is doing around us so that we may be able to see His hand at work and be able to give counsel to others, to prepare, to prevent, etc.

If we as a Church can grasp these elementary concepts I believe we will have much greater success for furthering God’s Kingdom. Explore the links above and below to continue this study.  Please feel free to contact us with any questions, comments or suggestions.
